Silkscreen Printing

For my fourth project we had to do silkscreen printing on a t shirt. First we had to pick an image on your own. We had to draw or trace it on a sheet of paper. After everyone had their own image drawn we had to get into groups of five or six. During the group time we had to share ideas of what image we could do on a t shirt. After we figured out what to do on the shirt we need to print out the image on a transparency paper. After that we had to put it in diazo. then we had to expose the screen under light. We had to wait six minutes to let the screen harden. In the area where the image is we had to put something over it so it wouldn't harden as much as the other part. Its like that because the part that would be black needs to harden and the part that we put something over it would wash out into a stencil. After doing the stencil we had to coat it over with either paint for paper or fabric paint for the t shirt. When doing the paint you need to put a little over the top of the stencil. Then we need to use a squeegee to push the paint onto the paper or t shirt. after that we used a hair dryer to dry the paint onto the shirt. I think the hardest part of this was washing off the diazo to make the stencil. The part I liked was knowing how to make a t shirt design and the process.
